POSITION: The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites nominations and applications for a faculty position in Management Science. The preferred appointment would be an assistant professor, but could be at the associate or full level depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment will start at the beginning of fall semester 2009.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have (or expect to receive by fall of 2009) a Ph.D. in management science, operations management, industrial engineering or a related field. Candidates with an interest in Supply Chain will be given preference. The candidate must have a very strong record of publishing high quality research to be considered at the rank of associate or full professor.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in business statistics and/or production and operations management and supply chain. Faculty are expected to publish in the leading journals of the discipline. Faculty are also expected to contribute to the service missions of the college and the discipline.
UNIVERSITY AND COMMUNITY: The Department of Management and Marketing has thirteen full-time and several research and adjunct faculty. This faculty has published in leading academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Production and Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Production Research, Production Planning and Control, Operations Research, Journal of Operational Research Society, European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Operations Research, Omega, Simulation, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Advertising, and IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management. The Department offers undergraduate degree programs in management and marketing with concentrations in Marketing Management, e-business, Supply Chain Management, Acquisition Management, Human Resource Management and General Management. The department faculty also participate in the College's Master's of Business Administration degree program. The college also includes the Center for the Management of Science and Technology (CMOST), the Center for Management and Economic Research (CMER) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
The College of Business Administration is AACSB international accredited and is ranked among the top ten percent of U.S. undergraduate business programs. Barron’s rates the University’s admissions as the most competitive in Alabama. The College has approximately 40 full-time faculty, 35 research, adjunct and part-time faculty, 1,000 undergraduate majors, and 250 master's students. The Huntsville metropolitan area is a culturally diverse high technology community with a population of about 365,000. The area is home to more than fifty Fortune 500 companies and is the site of several federal research facilities, including NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, the Army’s Aviation and Missile Command, and the Space and Missile Defense Command. Due to the recent Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Huntsville will be home to the country’s largest concentration of government supply chain and acquisition professionals. As a result, the College of Business Administration ranks #4 nationally in federal government funded research. Additionally Bizjournals ranked Huntsville, 1st on its list for America's most attractive warm-weather metropolitan areas. Huntsville also ranks 9th in The Green Guides and 18th in Popular Science magazines listing of “America’s Top 50 Greenest Cities.”
