Chair, Department of Logistics, Operations, and Management Information Systems

The College of Business at Iowa State University, one of the nation’s leading land-grant institutions and an AAU member, invites applications and nominations for the Department Chair of Logistics, Operations, and Management Information Systems (LOMIS).

Established in 1984, the College of Business is the third-largest of Iowa State University’s colleges, with over 3600 undergraduate students and nearly 300 graduate students; see www.business.iastate.edu. The College of Business is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

The Department of LOMIS uniquely brings together scholars actively advancing knowledge related to logistics, operations management, supply chain management, and management information systems. Faculty teach in undergraduate, MBA and, beginning Fall 2009, an inaugural PhD program in Business and Technology. LOMIS is the lead department in two of the three signature areas of the PhD (Management of Information Technology and Supply Chain Management; www.business.iastate.edu/phd/). The department, in addition to offering a masters in Information Systems, proudly participates in nationally recognized interdepartmental programs of masters in Information Assurance and PhD in Human Computer Interaction. Additionally, a 2005 U.S. News and World Report Best Graduate School ranking placed Iowa State University 37th for supply chain/logistics. A recent article in Supply Chain Management Review reported that academic respondents and practitioner respondents ranked Iowa State’s logistics and supply chain program 7th and 14th, respectively, from among 100 colleges and universities in North America. The department seeks to find an individual who can provide visionary leadership by marshalling the resources of the department in ways that capitalize on these unique interdisciplinary strengths.

The Department Chair reports to the dean, and works along with others in the college in coordinating the overall administration of the College. The Department Chair provides leadership in a number of areas and is responsible for development, administration, coordination, and promotion of academic programs, as well as preparation of course schedules. The chair is expected to stimulate and facilitate excellence in all aspects of departmental functioning. He/She will also provide effective representation of the department within the college, across the university, and to external constituencies. The chair must have an appropriate advanced degree and demonstrated credentials to be tenurable at the rank of full professor in the LOMIS Department of the College of Business. The chair is also expected to be a leader in attracting and retaining excellent and diverse faculty, staff, and students. Prior administrative experience will be considered a plus.

Iowa State University offers a rich student experience with unlimited academic and social opportunities in a comfortable, friendly, and supportive campus environment. Its 26,000 students come from all 50 states and 110 countries around the world.
