3.May.2009 - The School of Management and Governance

The School of Management and Governance offers undergraduate and graduate training in business and in the social sciences. The School focuses on management, governance, innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. In all these fields, the School provides bachelor, master and professional development programmes. In addition, scientific and applied research is carried out in various settings, such as health care, tertiary education, banking, and service business industries. Research is accommodated within the university research institutes: The Institute for Governance Studies (IGS), the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT) and the Center of expertise in Healthcare Operations Improvement and Research (CHOIR). The School has approximately 350 staff and 2,200 students.

The department Operational Methods for Production and Logistics (OMPL) is part of the School of Management and Governance. OMPL currently employs 15 researchers, including PhD students. OMPL researchers collaborate within CHOIR with various other UT departments, hospitals and other healthcare organizations. Spurred on by a graying population and increasing healthcare expenditures, there is an increasing interest of healthcare organizations to improve the efficiency of their processes. CHOIR is the Netherlands' largest center of expertise in healthcare process optimization Within CHOIR, OMPL's primary focus hereby is to use quantitative techniques from Operations Research to model and optimize healthcare processes. Also in teaching, healthcare operations management plays an increasing role: courses have been developed for the master program Industrial Engineering and Management, and are being developed for the bachelor/master program of Health Sciences. The department OMPL is looking for an:

Assistant Professor
Operations Management in Healthcare
(38 hours/week)

Responsibilities
You will teach in the Bachelor and Master programs in Industrial Engineering and Management and Health Sciences. You are in possession of the Dutch BKO-certificate (Certificate for Basic Teaching Competences) or are willing to obtain this certificate within two years. You will supervise Master students during their thesis research and you will supervise PhD students. You will formulate and carry out own research in the field of operations management/operations research in healthcare within CHOIR (see www.choir.utwente.nl) and you will assist in obtaining funding for research from external sources.

Profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with a Doctoral degree (PhD) and research experience in the field of operations research/operations management. You have teaching experience, demonstrable didactic qualities and experience in student supervision. Analytical and computational skills are a prerequisite. You have a record of high quality papers in reputed peer-reviewed scientific journals. You have affinity with and experience in working in a multidisciplinary environment. We are looking for someone with good communication and language skills (English, preferably also Dutch).

Employment conditions
We offer a challenging position in an inspiring environment. You will be appointed in a full-time tenured position, 38 hours a week. The salary scale, depending on your experience, extends to a maximum of €4374,- gross per month, based upon the job profile of Assistant Professor, level 2 (in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities). Growth to Assistant Professor, level 1 (maximum €4970,- gross per month) is possible in due course. The University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions.
