Assistant Professor Operations Management, University of Groningen, The Netherlands

The Department of Operations of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, is recruiting a tenure track assistant professor.

Department
The Department of Operations is one of the largest European research groups on operations, with focal areas in Operations Management, Operations Research, and Industrial Engineering. The department has over 25 tenured or tenure-track faculty in addition to several lecturers. Its research publications cover the full range of journals for the field, including IIE Transactions, Journal of Operations Management, Operations Research, Management Science, Decision Sciences, International Journal of Production Research, etc. The department builds on a strong position in international research networks. Staff members are heavily involved in an active PhD Program, and in successful bachelor and master programs in Industrial Engineering, Technology Management, Operations Research, and Business Administration. Research is concentrated in the Research Institute OPERA. There are two centers for contract research, LORC (lean operations) and RHO (healthcare organization and innovation).

Job description
The candidate is expected to strengthen the position of the Operations Management department. The candidate has the ability to conduct high quality, original research and publish it in high-ranked international journals. Time for research is allocated according to standardized faculty procedures, which guarantees initially 50% time for research during the tenure track period. In addition, candidates are expected to teach according to the highest standards in bachelor and master programmes of the department, including supervision of theses. Further tasks are coaching of PhD-students, renewal of educational programmes and participation in committees at the faculty level.

Requirements

  1. Background in operations management.
  2. PhD degree.
  3. At least three papers in good, refereed, journals in the area of Operations.
  4. At least two years of relevant work experience at a research institute.
  5. Excellent teaching qualifications.
  6. Organizational qualities and excellent communication skills.
  7. Willingness and ability to attract additional funding and research grants.

Conditions of employment
The position is at the assistant professor level. The salary, according to university standards in The Netherlands, depends on experience and qualifications and ranges between € 3195,- and € 4970,- gross per month (fulltime). In addition, there are a 8% holiday allowance and a 8,3 % end of year bonus. Depending on qualifications appointment can be for three or five years.
