2015 Best Paper Award Competition

The POMS College of Humanitarian Operations & Crisis Management invites all HOCM researchers to submit their papers to the College of HOCM Best Paper Award Competition. The award will be presented at the HOCM Business Meeting during the conference. The objective of the competition is to identify and honor outstanding papers in the fast-growing field of HOCM. Submissions will be judged based on their contribution towards the advancement of theory and practice of HOCM. All research methods, including field/case studies, empirical and analytical methods are encouraged.

Best Paper Competition
College of Humanitarian Operations and Crisis Management
POMS Conference, Washington, DC - May 8-11, 2015

Submissions to the competition should have relevance to theory and a potential to impact practice. Naturally, the topic of the paper should fall within the scope of HOCM. The winner will be announced and plaques will be presented at the College of HOCM business meeting (which is part of the main conference, not the HOCM mini-conference).

To be eligible for the Best Paper in HOCM award competition:

  • This year we open the competition to papers in ALL TRACKS as long as the paper fits within the scope of HOCM.
  • The paper must present original research and cannot be previously published at the time of submission.
  • The entrant is the first author on the paper and only one paper can be submitted to the competition by an entrant.
  • The entrant must register for the conference and present the paper in a session.

Submission Process:

  1. Submit an abstract of the paper either as an invited or contributed presentation in the HOCM Track using the conference website by December 15, 2014. Please forward a copy of the abstract along with a short email expressing your intention to join the paper competition to Dr. Nezih Altay (naltay@depaul.edu). Your email should include the title of the paper, list of all authors, their affiliations and email addresses, and the abstract number of the paper.
  2. Email the full-length paper by January 15, 2015 in an email attachment to Dr. Nezih Altay (naltay@depaul.edu). This emailed copy should be free of any information that may identify the authors. The paper should be in standard format (1” margins, double-spaced, 12 point font) and should not exceed 32 pages including tables, figures and appendices.

Please note that the formatting requirements and the deadlines for the best paper competition may be different than instructions for the Conference Proceedings because the two are independent events.
