Manuscripts should be submitted electronically, preferably a pdf file, to the appropriate departmental editor or to the editor-in-chief. Manuscripts should be typed on 8½” x 11” paper, double-spaced, including references, footnotes, and abstract. Papers should not exceed 32 pages, including all references, tables, graphs and appendices 12-point font with 1-inch margins on all four sides. Papers should have double-spacing throughout, including abstract, references, and footnotes.

A cover page should give the title of the paper, the authors' names, addresses, institutional affiliations, telephone numbers, fax numbers, and email addresses. The first page of the manuscript should include the title of the paper and an abstract of 100-400 words. The title should be concise descriptive and explicit. The abstract should properly summarize the important content of the paper. The abstract should not contain formulas, references, or abbreviations. Please note up to four key words at the end of the abstract.

Production and Operations Management does not use footnotes. The important material should be incorporated in the main text. Acknowledge presentations, support, and assistance in an acknowledgement section preceding the references.

Cite references in the text by enclosing the authors' names and the year of publication in parentheses. Like the text of the paper, references should be double-spaced. List references alphabetically in a reference section at the end of the paper in the following style:

Hayes, R. H., G. P. Pisano. 1996. Manufacturing strategy: At the intersection of two paradigm shifts. Production and Operations Management, 5 (1), 25-41.

As much as possible, papers suitable for Production and Operations Management should be readable by those comfortable with undergraduate mathematics.

The submission of a paper to Production and Operations Management for refereeing means that the author certifies the manuscript is not copyrighted; nor has it been accepted for publication (or published) by any refereed journal; nor is it being refereed elsewhere, at the same time. If the paper (or any version of it) has appeared, or will appear in a non-refereed publication, the details of such publication must be made known to the editor at the time of submission, so that the suitability of the paper for Production and Operations Management can be assessed. Once a manuscripts has been accepted for publication, its authors are asked to sign a copyright transfer agreement and to supply good quality artwork for any figures.
