2020 POMS College of Supply Chain Management Mini-Conference Announcement
The POMS College of Supply Chain Management is proud to announce that it will organize a tour of the Target distribution center in Fridley on Thursday April 23rd, 2020 from 1 pm to 5 pm (the day before the POMS Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN starts). This distribution center plays a key role in ensuring that products arrive at the Target stores and consumer doorsteps on time.
We are happy to share the details of this exciting tour and a tentative agenda:
Tour Details:
Participants can expect to see:
- A brief overview of Target's history, transformation, and examples of exciting new guest/digital initiatives.
- A detailed overview of Target's Global Supply Chain & Logistics team: physical network/assets, building formats, stores support, guest services and operational initiatives.
- An "on the floor" tour of our facility, equipment, team routines, communication vehicles, safety school/efforts, and planning.
- An interactive discussion led by Training & Change and HR leaders; focused on: talent management in Supply Chain, development opportunities, career pathing, etc.
Note that all participants will be required to sign an NDA upon arrival.

Following the Target tour, we will join other colleges for the general reception (at the conference hotel) from 6 pm to 7:30 pm and then head to our SCM College dinner/reception (location TBD) starting at 7:30 pm.
Participation in the tour (and the College dinner in the evening) requires registration for the mini-conference, which can be obtained via the POMS conference website (at the same time or separately at a later time from the registration to the main conference): https://pomsmeetings.org/conf-2020/. On-site registration is also possible (subject to space constraints on the bus).

2020 POMS College of SCM Mini-Conference Update
Dear Colleagues,
We regret to inform you that the Target DC tour of the POMS College of Supply Chain Management on Thursday April 23rd, 2020 has been cancelled, following concerns about the spread of the coronavirus. Target has informed us that they have restricted all non-business critical travel and visits until further notice, including our onsite tour of the Fridley Distribution Center. Due to this, we are also cancelling our dinner in that evening.
Please note that anyone who has already registered will be fully reimbursed for the mini-conference registration fee.

2020 POMS College of SCM Mentorship Initiative Announcement
Dear Colleagues,
For the fourth year in a row, the POMS College of Supply Chain Management is conducting a mentorship initiative on the day preceding the POMS conference, during our mini conference (April 23, 2020). The goal of the initiative is to provide a platform for interested members to meet other senior members (as mentors) to seek their advice about career planning, research agenda, work-life balance, etc.
We invite members of the College of Supply Chain Management, who will attend the 2020 POMS conference in Minneapolis, MN, to sign up to be paired up with a mentor or a mentee.
We will do our best to pair the interested parties based on interests, then we will invite you to connect in the evening during our College of SCM dinner. As we did last year, we will contact you after the conference to get your feedback and suggestions for improvement.

2020 College of Supply Chain Management Best Student Paper Competition
The College of Supply Chain Management of the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) announces its 2020 Best Student Paper Competition. Each submitted paper will be judged based on its contribution towards the advancement of theory and practice of supply chain management.
2020 POMS College of Supply Chain Management Student Paper Competition Results
The POMS College of Supply Chain Management would like to thank all the participants to the 2020 Best Student Paper Competition. This year, we had a very strong pool of 37 submissions. Each paper was sent to three reviewers from a pool of 45 judges. Based on their evaluation, we selected four finalist papers, which were judged by a panel of five distinguished scholars. Two honorable mentions, one second prize, and one first prize were chosen based on their assessments. Here are the results:
First Prize ($1000):
Somya Singhvi from MIT Operations Research Center for the paper entitled "Improving Farmers' Income on Online Agri-platforms: Theory and Field Implementation of a Two-stage Auction" co-written with Retsef Levi, Manoj Rajan, Yanchong Zheng;
Second Prize ($500):
Robert Niewoehner from University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler for the paper entitled "Focusing Provider Attention: An Empirical Examination of Incentives and Feedback in Flu Vaccinations" co-written with Bradley Staats;
Honorable Mentions ($200):
Han Zhang from Indiana University for the paper entitled "Social Responsibility Auditing in Supply Chain Networks" co-written with Goker Aydin, and Rodney P. Parker;
and
Yuqi Peng from University of South Carolina for the paper entitled "Bilateral R&D Productivity and Supply Chain Networks" co-written with Yan Dong, Sriram Venkataraman and Ahmet Colak.
