Another Wonderful Year of POMS!

The POMS College of Service Operations Management had another exciting and productive year at POMS in Reno. This year, CSOM successfully organized a well-attended mini-conference at Lake Tahoe, hosted at Northstar California Resort.

During the mini-conference, participants met with the management team from Vail Resorts to discuss how resort and tourism operations can better manage substantial seasonal demand fluctuations while enhancing customer experience and increasing revenue. The discussion generated many thoughtful research ideas around the operational challenges faced by destination-based service organizations, including capacity planning, staffing, pricing, customer flow management, and service experience design.
In addition to the industry engagement, CSOM organized outdoor activities that allowed members to enjoy the beautiful Lake Tahoe setting while building professional connections and strengthening our service operations research community.

At the CSOM business meeting, we debriefed the college’s current membership and financial status and discussed plans to further improve CSOM’s visibility, engagement, and service to our community. Most excitingly, we celebrated the winners of the Best Student Paper Competition, including the winner Xiao Ni, runner-up Guanting Wu, and finalists Ruicheng Ao, Hamid Arzani, Piao Hu, Zongsen Yang, as well as the recipient of the POMS CSOM Lifelong Service Award Ben Lawrence!!! Please join us in congratulating all of them on their outstanding achievements!

CSOM’s goal is to continuously engage service operations scholars, foster meaningful connections with industry, bridge research and practice, and better serve our academic community. We are grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s activities and contributed to making them a success!!!
