Walt Disney World Tour, May 5, 2016

This year, the POMS College of Supply Chain Management is organizing a tour in lieu of a mini-conference at the upcoming POMS conference in Orlando. It will take place on Thursday May 5, 2016 (the day before the POMS conference starts) from 1:30 to 3:30pm. The tour is of is the primary Merchandise Distribution Center (DC2) for Walt Disney World. The facility holds between 18K-22K unique items at a time, fluctuating seasonally, and supports over 300 locations ranging from small kiosks to 100K square foot stores as well as, all four Disney Cruise Line ships, Disney Vacation Clubs in Hilton Head and Vero Beach, and the Disney Store Online facility in Memphis. In 2008, the warehouse underwent a multi-million dollar automation and system upgrade, including the installation of nearly two miles of powered conveyor, an electronic warehouse control and management system, and a new pick mezzanine.

Transportation from the Hilton hotel will be organized, with busses leaving at 1pm. The tour will last about 2 hours, including a Q&A session with distribution center managers. After returning to the hotel, we will host a reception from 4:30 to 6pm. The participation fee for this event is $40 (only $20 for doctoral students).

SCM Student Paper Competition

The finalists for the POMS 2016 SCM College Best Student Paper Competition have been determined. We received 46 papers this year and have selected five finalists. The list of finalists is given in the details below. The finalists are required to present their paper at one of two sessions at the POMS Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. The two sessions are scheduled for Saturday May 7, 8:00am-9:30am and 9:45am-11:15am.

POMS College of Supply Chain Management Events at the POMS conference on May 7-12

The POMS College of Supply Chain Management mini-conference took place on May 7th in Washington, DC with a focus on productive academic interaction with government entities and think tanks.

The mini-conference ended with a dinner at the Sequoia restaurant to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the college of Supply Chain Management.

The College also held its annual business meeting on May 9, where the winners of the 2015 Best student paper competition were announced.
